Ministry of Agriculture and Russian Fishery Agency will continue to optimize the mechanisms of state support

On September 25, at an expanded meeting of the Collegium of Russian Fishery Agency, Dmitriy Patrushev the Minister of Agriculture, outlined the strategic areas for development of the fishery sector. The head of the agency considers the new challenges associated with the pandemic as a powerful impetus to find the optimal ways and mechanisms of work.

Despite the fact that the restrictions imposed because of the coronavirus, complicated the conditions for functioning of the fishery sector, at the moment, according to the Minister, there is the dynamics of growth in a number of areas. For example, in the first half of 2020, the catch reached 3,7 million tons, which is higher than the level on the same date of last year.

The sub-industry of fish farming also shows an impressive growth dynamics. In the second quarter, the scopes of production of commercial aquaculture products attained 168,5 thousand tons, which is 17% higher than in the same period of 2019.

According to the Minister, these successes took place, inter alia, thanks to the state support. In 2019, 13.8 billion rubles were allocated to the activities of the state program for the development of the fishery sector, in 2020 an increase in funding by 50,5% - to 20.8 billion

Dmitriy Patrushev stressed that the Ministry of Agriculture jointly with the Russian Fishery Agency will continue to optimize and improve the effectiveness of the mechanisms provided by the state support. A set of measures will be aimed at improving the quality of Russian products, its promotion and increase in demand, reduction in the supply chain between fishermen may and final customer, increasing the number of retail outlets.

“Certainly, the implementation of the strategy [of development of the fisheries industry in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030] also contributes to achieving the objectives of the food security in our country, - said Dmitriy Patrushev. - in 2019, the industry was able to reach the doctrine target in terms of fish availability by 143%. Forecast for 2020 - 150%. This evidences, there are ample opportunities for development of exports in Russia."

In conclusion, the Minister emphasized that the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia and Russian Fishery Agency are ready to provide all possible support to fishermen and producers.
